HUMAN IMMUNODIFICIENCY VIRUS (HIV)

Signs and Symptoms (Infected persons may NOT recognize symptoms, but can still transmit disease)*
  1. Initially, none
  2. Later-fever, night sweats, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, diarrhea
Transmission*
  • Exchange of infected bodily fluids during sexual contact
  • Sharing hypodermic needles with an infected individual.
  • Contact with infected blood
  • Mother to child transmission possible

  • Condom Effectiveness**(assuming consistent condom use)
    Consistent and correct use of condoms reduced the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission by approximately 85%.**

    1. Destruction of person's cellular immunity.
    2. Multiple infections, cancers and eventually death.
