YOUR PLEDGE

Parents certainly have a lot of "things" we wish to accomplish. But how many of us write those things down? Oh, sure, we make "Things To Do Today" lists and "Grocery Lists" but what about the really significant things? Only about 3 percent of Americans write down their goals. Yet studies show that if one actually documents a goal, he or she is much more likely to achieve it. That very idea is why we at Worth the Wait are so very excited about our pledge cards.

Congress recently spent some $25 million to collect information on risky behaviors in teens. The study was one of the largest on adolescents in America. This study, "Protecting Adolescents from Harm" (published in the Journal of the American Medical Association), determined that a key factor in delaying teen sex is a pledge of virginity by the adolescent. The study reveals that those teenagers who signed a pledge to wait were 75 percent less likely to have early sex.

The study also showed that parental disapproval of teen sex is also one of the most significant tools teens can have in support of abstinence. Thus, we designed our pledge cards with both a card for the students and a card of support for the parents.

Here it is for you to download and take the opportunity to talk with your son or daughter about waiting.
